How To Melt a Bass Drum Head Porthole
So, I did a bunch of research on how to cut your own porthole in a bass drum head and was surprised at how little information there was on it. A few people suggested just using a stencil and a sharp blade, a few people suggested just upping the 40 bucks and buying one, and a few people suggested melting a hole. I’m a big fan of ingenuity so i tried the melting method and it worked flawlessly. Thought I would share my findings on how to. If you have any questions, just message me.

your stove is still on
ever since you made this video back in 07, ive been melting holes in all of my kick drum reso heads! just did it about 10 minutes ago or so! thanks!
Is making a hole just for the mic? or is there any other use?

“Shove the mic inside of the drum”. Well said, brother… Well said.
i did

thanks lad buh wud u not put the hole at the bottom of the kick drum reply plz
Trolololol.
It is recommended to perform outdoor as you are actually melting plastic material. Fumes produced are toxic to human body.
my dad died doing this
0:06 am I the only one who taught that funny?
I did this. Had to get the can so hot it nearly burnt a hole in my pot holder glove-thingy. My down side is that I had a gas stove top, so I used a pan to heat up my can. I was successful and it worker great. Just a big note: your house will smell like burnt plastic for a few hours; not the best smell in the world.
youre right it’s not a computer it’s a macbook bahaha nah it’s cool im typing this on my macbook pro so im just trolling you
I would rather be patient and save up for a Evans base drum with a resonance hole.
tbf i did this method and it works absolutely fine ahahah just watch out you dont melt anything on the metal thing you use. Also make sure you do it quite close to the edge or the head will rip
It lasted a long time! It does lessen the structural integrity of the head, but as long as you’re careful with your equipment, you shouldn’t have a problem.
It’s a lot “funner” to play with fire than sharp knifes.
go with this method. i used a box cutter and fucked up my head. two rips.
“AHH, you can see my Mac-Book in the reflection! <3 That’s cool”

So after all these years the hole has stayed a hole? I mean, it hasn’t split along the edge or anything?
Did it ever tear?
