Blue Torch Alcohol stove by Ultralight Designs #1

Hey, just a little review and demonstration of the (Blue Torch) alcohol stove from Ultralite Designs. This is a great little stove. Lightweight compact and easily carried with you just about anywhere you plan to go and need a portable way to boil water or cook food.

    We use inside a tent:

    A trangia stove
    A Gas fire
A Petrol light – honest – all at the same time – and live!!

    It is all about ventilation.

who would use that in a tent? the shield is for wind and the pan support is used to keep the pan above the fire… also if you do use it in a tent you die from the built up gases

This looks a lot like a White Box Stove (which I used, without fail, for 2,200 miles). However, you don’t have to burn alcohol around the outside. Is that to warm up the alcohol (the point of evaporation) on the inside? Can you not just light the alcohol inside the stove?

Now I know why Trangia sell there burner with a shield and pan support. Certainly would not like that thing in a small tent without some external protection.

I did go ahead and use a rat tail file, a small one to make 2 small half circle depressions in the top of the stove. That should keep the stove from building up too much pressure under the pan.

I think these are some of the fastest burning stoves I have used and the simplest to make. I like the Fiberglass wick around the outside then you don’t need the primer tray.

You will have to do another video of the ones that you make.
